Shanghai Centre Marks its 20th with a Grand Birthday Bash, Lighting Up the Skies with Live Music and Laser Shows
At its grand opening in October 1990, the Shanghai Centre was the tallest building in Shanghai. It was also the first serviced apartment complex downtown and home to the first international supermarket providing imported goodies.
Today, 20 years later, Shanghai Centre is still “the Center of Shanghai”. The story of a lady who never ages… Join us as we present Jazz Legend Roy Hargrove and others to celebrate this very special occasion!
Located in the heart of Jingan district, on Nanjing Road West, the Shanghai Centre complex is the city’s first and largest multi-use venue: 472 luxury serviced apartments; 30,000 square meters of prime office space; an upscale tri-level retail plaza; the Shanghai Centre Theatre; a trademark exhibition atrium; and the deluxe 5-star hotel - The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai.

To celebrate this memorable event, Shanghai Centre is planning plenty of activities throughout the year.
The kick-off of the celebrations is planned for Oct. 12 with a Ceremony at the Exhibition Plaza inside the complex. Seating will be reserved for VIP guests only but there is plenty of space around to watch the ceremony and a spectacular laser-show.
The laser-show will be repeated every night at 7.30pm, and this for the whole duration of the week (last performance is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 17, 7.30pm)
The Shanghai Centre Theatre will host the 2010 International Jazz Festival. For six nights in a row, starting Wednesday, Oct. 13 a different world-class jazz performer or band will hit the stage. Amongst them Nils Landgren, Fourplay, Dianne Reeves, Roy Hargrove and many more.
Tickets are available online through Oriental ticketing (www.ticket2010.com) as well as at the Theatre Ticket booth, right downstairs on Nanjing Rd. Tickets can also be reserved over the phone (6279 8663).
Performances start at 8:00pm so make sure to come a bit early not too miss the laser-show downstairs.

One week later, on Sunday, Oct, 24 Shanghai Centre will invite the local community for a free movie screening of two popular movies at our theatre. Tickets are available through the Jingan Neighbourhood Committee.
